“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” — Psalm 127:1
With those words, read by Lemario Clarke-Demier, Vice President of the Associated Student Body 2026/2027, the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) opened a meaningful moment of reflection, gratitude, and dedication on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at its Main Campus entrance in Maracas, St. Joseph.
The occasion marked the Commissioning and Dedication Ceremony of USC’s newly upgraded campus entrance, a milestone that represents far more than a physical enhancement. It stands as a visible symbol of the University’s continued growth, commitment to excellence, and preparation for its historic Centennial Celebration in 2027.
In his opening remarks, University President Dr. Colwick Wilson welcomed those gathered and expressed heartfelt appreciation to the various departments and teams whose work contributed to the successful completion of the project. Special recognition was given to the Maintenance Department, led by Mr. Lincoln Laltoo, and the SkyGrid team, led by Mr. Durey Arthur, for their dedication, skill, and contribution to the upgraded entrance.

The ceremony was attended by members of the University’s senior administration and leadership, including Provost Dr. Len Archer, Mr. Joel Hazelwood, Vice President for Financial Administration; Mrs. Esther Cedeno, Assistant Vice President for Financial Administration; Mrs. Sherri-Lyn Legall, Interim Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship; and Mr. Bowen Nelson, Chief Security Officer.
A sacred moment of dedication followed, as Pastor Kern Tobias, outgoing President of the Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, offered the Commissioning and Dedicatory Prayer. In his reflections, Pastor Tobias affirmed the importance of giving God one’s very best, stating, “God deserves the best… Dr. Wilson has brought a Nehemiah-like attitude to this campus.”

Following the ceremony, attendees were taken on a brief tour of the upgraded areas. The tour highlighted the new University of the Southern Caribbean logo installation at the main entrance, a refreshed and distinguished visual marker that now welcomes all who enter the campus.
The group also toured the newly enhanced Security Booth, which has been outfitted with air conditioning, screens, and smart devices to support improved accessibility, comfort, and operational efficiency. The upgrades reflect USC’s ongoing commitment to creating a campus environment that is not only welcoming, but also modern, secure, and responsive to the needs of its community.

The afternoon concluded with a closing prayer by Pastor Bertie Henry, Treasurer of the Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. With favorable weather and a spirit of thanksgiving surrounding the occasion, the ceremony served as a timely reminder that USC’s progress continues to be rooted in faith, guided by vision, and built through collaboration.
As the University looks ahead to its grand Centennial Celebration in August 2027, the newly upgraded campus entrance now stands as a gateway. A gateway of purpose, a gateway showing the symbol of where USC has been and what it continues to build, and the excellence it is committed to advancing for generations to come.
