The University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) announces the attainment of accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) for its Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The accreditation, which carries the maximum initial period of five years, affirms USC’s adherence to rigorous international standards in nursing education and positions the institution for expanded regional and global engagement.
This milestone coincides with the 20th anniversary of USC’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The programme was launched in 2006, the same year the institution transitioned from Caribbean Union College to the University of the Southern Caribbean, with a clear mandate to serve, heal, and lead.
USC’s accreditation represents a defining advancement in strengthening nursing education within Trinidad and Tobago and the English-speaking Caribbean, signaling the University’s commitment to quality, accountability, and the preparation of highly trained healthcare professionals equipped to meet critical, evolving regional and global demands.
The significance of this development is both immediate and far-reaching. For students, ACEN accreditation enhances access to graduate programs, supports eligibility to sit NCLEX examinations, and supports broader recognition of qualifications across the United States and the wider global market. For the institution, it strengthens USC’s academic credibility and opens pathways for deeper collaboration with regional and international partners in healthcare education and research.
As USC continues its Journey to 100, this accomplishment stands as a testament to two decades of vision, investment, and commitment to excellence in nursing education.
