A refreshing act of kindness greeted persons entering the University of the Southern Caribbean’s (USC) Main Campus on June 15, 2026, as the Estate Police Department launched its AOK-100 Refresh Initiative. Beginning at 8:45am, the department distributed complimentary bottles of water to persons entering the campus, creating a warm and welcoming start to the day.
The initiative formed part of USC’s 100 Acts of Kindness (AOK-100) project, a centennial programme celebrating the university’s legacy of service and impact. Through practical acts of kindness, AOK-100 seeks to uplift individuals, strengthen communities and demonstrate USC’s continued commitment to making a meaningful difference.
Led by Mr. Bowen Nelson, Director of the USC Estate Police Department, the initiative provided water to more than 100 students, employees and visitors throughout the day. Beyond offering relief from the heat, the activity encouraged positive interactions and strengthened the spirit of care, connection and community across the campus.
According to Mr. Nelson, the department was eager to participate in the campus-wide AOK-100 initiative and began brainstorming a meaningful activity that aligned with its role at USC. With officers stationed at the university’s main entrance, he saw an ideal opportunity to welcome campus users while offering some relief from the unusually hot weather.

“Being at the gate, we interact with persons coming in and out of the campus every day,” Mr. Nelson explained. “With the weather being so hot, I thought it would be a great idea to greet them with a cold bottle of water.”
The initiative was funded through contributions from members of the Estate Police Department and was executed with the assistance of Security Officer Adams. Together, they greeted students, employees and visitors as they entered the campus, distributing refreshing bottles of water and sharing a simple but meaningful act of kindness.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Nelson said it was rewarding to personally connect with members of the campus community. For him, the initiative represented more than distributing water, it was an opportunity to make persons feel welcomed, valued and cared for.
AOK-100 Refresh formed part of USC’s 100 Acts of Kindness (AOK-100) initiative, which was conceptualized by Chaplain Rachel Sealy as part of the university’s Centennial celebrations. Developed in response to a call for community-focused projects that would commemorate USC’s 100 years of service and impact, the initiative encourages student, employees, alumni and community partners to demonstrate practical compassion through acts of kindness that uplifts and supports others.

Looking ahead to USC’s centennial celebrations in 2027, Mr. Nelson expressed his desire to see continued growth across the university and a stronger spirit of love and unity among students, faculty and staff. He also hopes that future AOK-100 activities will extend beyond the campus and positively impact residents of the surrounding Maracas community.
The University of the Southern Caribbean extends sincere appreciation to Mr. Bowen Nelson, Security Officer Adams and the entire Estate Police Department for supporting the AOK-100 initiative and demonstrating that even the simplest gesture can make a refreshing difference.
