AOK-100: USC’s Centennial Compassion in Action

Stepping into its centennial year, a unified campus prepares to transform lives through service.

The AOK-100 (Acts of Kindness 100) initiative was born out of the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) centennial celebration.   At its core, AOK-100 is designed to mobilize students, departments, alumni, churches, and community partners to intentionally carry out 100 acts of kindness across Trinidad and Tobago and beyond. These acts are intentionally diverse and responsive to real community needs, including food distribution, clothing drives, prayer and emotional support, health outreach, environmental initiatives, educational assistance, and community engagement projects

The initiative was officially launched on March 7th, 2026, at Centre City Mall in Chaguanas, in a powerful open-air gathering marked by music, prayer, testimonies, mental health awareness, and hands-on service. The launch brought the vision of AOK-100 to life as volunteers distributed food, bread, and clothing, while also offering prayer, encouragement, and emotional support to members of the community. With over 100 individuals receiving food support and clothing, alongside free health screenings and consultations, the event set a strong foundation for what AOK-100 represents—compassion that is visible, practical, and transformative.

AOK-100 is an ongoing initiative running From March 2026 through July 2027, and participation is open and inclusive. Members of the USC community—including schools, departments, student organizations, and alumni—as well as members of the wider public—are all invited to participate. Departments and groups are encouraged either to design new initiatives or to align existing outreach programs under the AOK-100 banner, ensuring that ongoing efforts are unified within the broader centennial vision of service.

Together, they represent more than roles. They represent continuity. “This is a diverse team,” Johnson says. “You have individuals from the ’70s, the ’80s, the ’90s, the 2000s. That mix matters.”

Already, several initiatives have embraced this framework. The Department of Nursing and Human Resource recently aligned its Health Day under the AOK-100 banner, becoming one of the first departmental initiatives to officially “fly the AOK flag.” This milestone demonstrates how existing programs can be elevated and connected to the wider movement. Other naturally aligned initiatives include the YESS-USC Program under the School of Education and Humanities, Barak Day hosted by the School of Theology and Religion, and the annual Love Hamper Distribution facilitated by the Department of Student Advisement. These efforts already reflect the spirit of service and are now being unified under AOK-100.

Together, they represent more than roles. They represent continuity. “This is a diverse team,” Johnson says. “You have individuals from the ’70s, the ’80s, the ’90s, the 2000s. That mix matters.”

Student leadership has also embraced the initiative. The Associated Student Body (ASB) has contributed through a bread distribution at Pulse and is currently organizing a beach clean-up project, further extending the reach of AOK-100 into community and environmental service. Territorial clubs, ministerial groups, and academic organizations are all invited and encouraged to participate.

Looking ahead, AOK-100 will culminate in a major health and community impact initiative in July 2027, hosted in partnership with Hands International. This culminating event will bring together healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community partners for a large-scale health fair and outreach program focused on physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We invite you to get on board with AOK-100—join the movement by launching or aligning your acts of kindness and becoming part of this collective impact. Through AOK-100, we can transform lives, strengthen communities, and leave a lasting legacy of compassion.
