The University of the Southern Caribbean is proud to announce the following scholarships available for all eligible students for the 2021/2022 Academic year:

Aron J. Horrell Scholarship

The Aron J. Horrell Scholarships are awarded competitively among eligible Biology Majors of the University of the Southern Caribbean on the basis of the applicant’s academic achievements. This scholarship will be awarded once per academic year and will be in the amount of TTD$2,000.00 per scholarship.

Eligibility for Scholarship:
The Aron J. Horrell Scholarship is only offered once per academic year, and is available to Biology Majors who are academically qualified and are enrolled as a student at USC.

Applicant Criteria:

  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA

  • Enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits in the semester the scholarship is being awarded.

  • Must have good character and maintain good citizenship

  • Demonstrates leadership ability

  • Must be enrolled in the USC work/study program

The Scholarship Committee of the University of the Southern Caribbean will make recommendations for scholarships based on the following factors:

  • Academic record

  • Letters of reference

  • Personal letter

  • Extra-curricular and volunteer activities

  • Work-experience (if applicable)

Scholarship Notification:

  • The Scholarship Committee will meet to evaluate applications and make decisions for approval of qualified individuals.

  • The Scholarship Committee will notify the President Cabinet of the approved recipient’s name for this scholarship award.

  • The scholarship will be credited to the qualifying student’s account after verification of enrolment/registration. The amount of the award is exactly TTD$2,000.00

  • The Scholarship recipient will be notified in writing of their award.

  • Scholarship recipient is required to acknowledge their scholarship, in writing to the Scholarship Committee.

  • The Scholarship Committee will request specific information on all scholarship recipients to be included for the accolades of USC Scholarship Awards Day.

Renewal of Scholarship:
Since the Aron J. Horrell scholarship is a one-time only item, scholarships will not be renewed.

Adrian T. Westney Scholarship Fund (ATWSF)

The purpose of the Adrian T. Westney Scholarship Fund (ATWSF) is to provide scholarships for aspiring junior and senior high school and college students who are enrolled at Pine Forge Academy, Kingsway High School, Harrison Memorial High School, Northern Caribbean University and University of the Southern Caribbean.

Applicant Criteria:

  • Be entering the junior or senior year in the high school or college

  • Attend one of the high schools or universities stated above

  • Enrolled as a full-time student

  • Have a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4-point scale

  • Be financially needy

  • Demonstrate extracurricular involvement

Selection Criteria:

  • Financial need (25%)

  • Academic performance (25%)

  • Outstanding citizenship (15%)

  • Notable extracurricular involvement (20%)

  • Confirmed spiritual maturity (15%)

Award Amount, Number and Frequency:
The award amount, number and frequency of the awards are dependent on available funds. They are also dependent on stipulations stated by Dr. Adrian T. Westney. Efforts are made to ensure that scholarships to awardees at the various institutions are provided the best possible financial assistance.

Duration and Purpose of the Award:
The ATWSF scholarship is for a single academic year. The scholarship is for tuition aid only.

Renewal Criteria:
Students who have received a scholarship for the junior year may re-apply for a renewal of the scholarship for the senior year. In doing this, the student must: (1) submit an updated ATWSF Application Form, and (2) provide a transcript of grades for the junior year.

Selection Procedure:

  • Scholarship applications are initially reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of each of the academic institutions based on the established eligibility and selection criteria and the top applicants are forwarded to the Scholarship Committee of the ATWSF Board for final vetting.

  • Each institution will submit two (2) to three (3) applications for each scholarship available to it. The Scholarship Liaison/Committee will send the applications either on line to westneyscholarship@gmail.com or via traditional mail service to The Scholarship Committee, Adrian T. Westney Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1379, Clinton, MD 20735, USA.

  • Recommendations for scholarship awards are made to the Board by the ATWSF Scholarship Committee and the Board selects the scholarship recipients.

Award Notification:
The chief administrator of the educational institution and the Scholarship Liaison are notified
of the successful scholarship recipient(s). Scholarship recipients are notified in writing or through the institutional Liaison as appropriate.

Procedure for Receiving the Scholarship Award Funds:
The educational institution must verify to the Scholarship Fund the student’s enrollment in school before the scholarship check can be released by the ATWSF Treasurer. Checks will be made payable to the academic institution for the student upon such verification of the student’s enrollment.

Scholarship Recipients Providing Information to the ATWSF:
Scholarship recipients are encouraged to send information to the ATWSF regarding the manner in which the scholarship assisted them toward the achieving their academic and spiritual goals.

General Scholarships

Two-Way Scholarship

To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must apply to the church where he/she holds membership.  It is restricted to conferences/missions in the Caribbean Union.  The sum approved and paid to the student’s account by the Church will be matched 50% by the college up to and not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00) per semester.  The amount stipulated by the college to be awarded to the student is in no way intended to influence or limit the generosity of the local church.

Literature Evangelist Scholarships

To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must apply to the church where he/she holds membership.  It is restricted to conferences/missions in the Caribbean Union.  The sum approved and paid to the student’s account by the Church will be matched 50% by the college up to and not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00) per semester.  The amount stipulated by the college to be awarded to the student is in no way intended to influence or limit the generosity of the local church.

Recruitment Plan

Work-Study Scholarships

Students may earn a portion of their expenses by working part-time in a college industry or service.  Jobs are based on availability.

Industrial Scholarships

(Open to Nationals of Trinidad & Tobago only.)  Students who work full-time, minimum of forty (40) hours weekly, for one year would receive fifteen percent (15%) salary bonus credited to their account, if the required amount of hours are completed.

Tuition Scholarships

USC awards one-year tuition scholarships annually to recent graduates, one each, from eleven SDA high schools in the Caribbean Union Conference.  Recipients must be the top performers in their classes, based on the results of the CXC examinations.  Their high school principals must also recommend them.  Students on this scholarship must maintain a 3.0 GPA at the end of the first semester in order to benefit the second semester.  Scholarships must be used in the year they are awarded.  They are not valid after.

Specially Named Scholarships

Distinguished alumni and friends of the college annually provide monies towards student scholarships.  These scholarships have specific criteria.  Enquires and applications can be made via the office of the V.P. of Development, Public Relations, and Alumni Affairs.
