Named Scholarships 2024/2025

The Aron J. Horrell Scholarship

The Aron J. Horrell Scholarships are awarded competitively among eligible Biology Majors of the University of the Southern Caribbean on the basis of the applicant’s academic achievements. This scholarship will be awarded once per academic year and will be in the amount of (Two Thousand, TT Dollars) TT$2,000.00 per scholarship.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Applicants must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits in the semester the scholarship is being awarded.
  • Student must have good character and maintain good citizenship
  • Demonstrate leadership ability
  • Must be enrolled in the USC work/study program

Application requirements:

  • Two letters of reference.
  • A page long personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship.
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA.

The Sylvia Modeste Nursing Leading Scholarship  (Semester I)

This scholarship is to recognize scholarly achievements and to encourage students’ pursuit of leadership roles in the nursing profession. This scholarship awards an amount of USD$1,000.00.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  • Applicants must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits in the semester the scholarship is being awarded.
  • Be conscientious, dependable, diligent and determined.
  • Show financial need.
  • Be goal oriented.
  • Be enrolled in the BSN Nursing program.
  • Demonstrate acquired leadership skills.

Application requirements:

  • An essay outlining why he/she should be awarded a leadership scholarship. This essay should provide reviewers with a candid portrayal of the student’s readiness for receiving and appropriately utilizing a scholarship awarded that exemplifies the student as a qualified recipient. Additionally, the student should clearly articulate his/her leadership concept and demonstrate acquired leadership skills which play an important role in how a leader is viewed.
  • Two letters of reference.
  • A page long personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship.
  • A transcript/grade print out showing evidence of their GPA.

The USC Alumni & Friends Huntsville, Alabama Scholarship  (Semester I) 

This scholarship awards an amount of USD$1,000.00.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • The student must be a graduating senior needing assistance to clear financially.
  • Must have a good citizenship record including having helped himself/herself through student labor.
  • Must have maintained a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must not be related to an employee of the Church/University..

Application requirements:

  • Two letters of reference.
  • A page long personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship.
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA.

The University of the Southern Caribbean Alumni Association, North America (USCAANA) (Semester II) 

$13,000US worth of scholarships.
This scholarship awards USD$1,000.00  per person.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • There must be a demonstrated need
  • Applicants must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits in the semester the scholarship is being awarded
  • Students must be of good character and maintain good citizenship
  • Demonstrate leadership ability, and engage in campus ministries activities

Application requirements:

  • Two letters of reference.
  • A page long personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship.
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA.

Timothy S. Greaves M.D. Scholarship (Semester I) 

The Timothy S. Greaves M.D. Scholarship will be awarded competitively among Guyanese or Barbadian students of the University of the Southern Caribbean based on the applicant’s academic achievements, show financial need, portray strong Christian values and high determination for achievement of goals. 

This scholarship will be awarded for USD$1,000.00.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Applicants must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits in the semester the scholarship is being awarded.
  • Dedicated Christian.
  • Conscientious, dependable, diligent and determined.
  • Show financial need.
  • Goal Oriented.
  • Be of Guyanese or Barbadian nationality or by default an eligible national of any other country within the Caribbean
  • Must be enrolled in the USC’s work/study program.

Application requirements:

  • Two letters of reference.
  • A page long personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship.
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA.

The Samuel & Hyacinth Thorpe Music Scholarship (Semester I)

The Samuel & Hyacinth Thorpe Music Scholarship will be awarded competitively among Students* enrolled in the Music Degree Program of the University of the Southern Caribbean, based on the applicant’s academic achievements, show financial need, strong Christian values and high determination for the achievement of goals. This scholarship awards an amount of USD$1,000.00. 

*Immediate relatives of the Thorpe family are not eligible for this scholarship.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • Must be pursuing a Degree in Music.
  • Must be currently enrolled at USC.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  • Must have a financial need.

Application requirements:

  • Two letters of reference.
  • Students will also be required to submit an essay of 500 words or more on their interest in pursuing a degree in music and their future plans once the Degree has been attained.
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA.

The North American Alumni - Southern California Chapter Occupational Therapy Scholarship (Semester I & II)

The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) scholarship fund is established to provide scholarships for the occupational therapy students at the University of the Southern Caribbean. This semester students have the opportunity to benefit from a fund of $5,000USD.  Scholarship would be awarded in order of merit and need.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • Completed a minimum of 2 semesters in the USC Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program.
  • Good academic standing (above G.P.A 3.0).
  • Active TTOTA member.
  • Demonstrated leadership within the program.
  • Documented community service.

Application requirements:

  • A completed MSOT Scholarship Application form.
  •  A statement of 200 words or less explaining why you deserve the scholarship. The application should focus on intended contributions to the MSOT programme, and to the field of occupational therapy during  time at USC. Must provide specific examples that incorporate applicant's unique characteristics and skills.

ASB Scholarship (Semester I, II & III)

The ASB Scholarship is open to all registered USCian students too.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • Not in receipt of ANY financial assistance (GATE, Government funding for international students, funding from conferences/mission)
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Be a returning student, at least in your second year*.
  • Be a registered student, enrolled in the current semester of application.
  •  Maintain satisfactory academic performance, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Be a working student- either on-campus or off-campus.
  •  Provide all supporting documentation.

The Samuel & Pauline Dey Scholarship (Semester I & II)

This scholarship awards an amount of USD$2,500.

Application requirements:

  • Two Letters of reference
  • A page long personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA.

The Scholarship Committee of the University of the Southern Caribbean will make recommendations for scholarships based on the following factors:

  • Academic record
  • Letters of reference
  • Personal Letter
  • Extra-curricular and volunteer activities
  • Work-experience (if applicable)

Sigma Ro Scholarship (Semester II)

The Sigma Ro Scholarships, launched in 2021, are awarded among eligible Female Theology Majors of the University of the Southern Caribbean on the basis of the applicant’s academic achievement and financial need.  Trinidad and Tobago nationals may be eligible if they are not funded by the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses (GATE) programme

Application requirements:

  • Articulate evidence of financial need.
  • Articulate evidence of current semester’s registration and GPA status.
  • Evidence of involvement in church or campus ministries.
  • A letter of character or academic reference 

Ingrid Tom-Phillips Scholarship (Semester II)

The Ingrid Denise Tom-Phillips Scholarship will aid in the education of female students who are majoring in a concentration from the School of Business Administration at the University of the Southern Caribbean, Maracas Valley , Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. the Tom-Phillips Scholarship will be offered once per academic year to assist one (1) deserving female student with origins in the Republics of Trinidad and Tobago or Barbados.

This scholarship awards an amount of USD$1,000

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • Must be enrolled in their sophomore  (or greater) year of study at USC
  • Must be enrolled in the University's School of Business Administration
  • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits during the semester they will apply scholarship funds
  • Must be a female student with origins in Trinidad and Tobago or Barbados
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25

Application requirements:

  • Two Letters of reference
  • A page long personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA.

Dr.Hilary & Mrs Verina Bowman Scholarship (Semester I)

The Dr Hilary & Mrs Verina Bowman Student Needs Fund will be awarded to needy students who meet the admission requirements of the University of the Southern Caribbean. Applicants should show proof of financial need; portray strong Christian values and high determination for achievement of goals. This initial scholarship endowment fund will be an amount of USD$2,000, however scholarships will be awarded once per academic year and will be for One Thousand, USD Dollars (USD$1,000.00) per scholarship or as determined by the donors as funds are available.

Scholarship criteria is as follows:

  • Meet the admission requirements for the desired program of study. 
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.50 GPA.
  • Applicants must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits in the semester the scholarship is being awarded. 
  • Evidence of Christian values in harmony with the university’s philosophy.
  • Conscientious, dependable, diligent and determined.
  • Show financial need.
  • Goal Oriented.
  • Must be enrolled in the USC’s work/study program.

Application requirements:

  • Two Letters of reference
  • A personal letter explaining their financial need for a scholarship.
  • Submit an official copy of their GPA/CSEC passes.
