A joint programme of the Professional Development Institute, University of the Southern Caribbean and the Public Campus Ministries of the Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh Day Adventists!

Thousands of Adventist Youth go off to college and university each year.  Some of these youth attended denominational schools for all or part of their primary and secondary education and are heading to non-denominational colleges or universities.  Some leave their home cities and countries for environments that are quite different from what they have always known. Whatever the new learning environment, ahead of youth are significant shifts in their ways of being and doing and knowing and living together.  To support our youth in making a seamless transition, to help them prepare to adapt to new environments, to help them better understand and prepare the road ahead, the University of the Southern Caribbean is offering a specially designed preparatory programme – Adventist Boot Camp! – for our young people.  This programme will help enhance spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and physical preparation for the exciting world ahead, one in which they can remain rooted and grounded in Christ as they pursue their dreams and reach forthe stars. About ABC!

ABC! is a one-week, intensive, stimulating and fun programme. Adventist Boot Camp is open to youth who will attend college or university in 2025 or 2026!

It has five work streams as follows:

Spiritual Development
The Spiritual Development reinforces basic tenets of the Bible, Seventh-Day Adventist principles and practices, and Christian ethics to equip ABCampers with the skills, competencies and confidence needed to navigate secular institutions, to plan and manage their personal worship and witness, shore up their spiritual reserves and understand the sources and pathways to help in spiritual crises and emergencies.

Emotional Development
The emotional development component (re)introduces ABCampers to the fundamentals of emotional development and an
understanding of their own emotional intelligence, in order to deploy self-awareness, self-regulation, affirming values such as caring, compassion, consideration and courtesy, and positive measures for continued self-development in a secular environment.

Intellectual Development
With the guidance of experienced and qualified Instructors, ABCampers critique some of the most widely espoused secular philosophies, examine their own perspectives of ways of being, knowing, doing and living together, as well as acquire practical strategies for self-directed learning, time-management, note-taking, analysis, presentation and examination preparation.

Social Development
ABC! is about fellowship, fun and forming friendships for a lifetime. ABCampers have an opportunity, in a safe space, to reflect on their lifestyles and choices, to share their talents and their optimism, and leave with a stronger faith in God and enhanced confidence and self-esteem. At ABC!, they enhance their social graces and polish their social skills. Bootcamp is finishing school, and ABCampers leave ready, under God, to face the world.

Physical Development
ABC! From food and nutrition to exercise and hygiene, ABCampers are taken across the tape from living at home to managing on their own. They leave with a comprehensive understanding and appreciation for whole health, and are equipped with the basics of ‘doing’ for themselves on stringent and elastic budgets. They learn to detect, assess, avoid and address risks to their wellbeing, and to respect their personal integrity and that of the other.

All ABCampers stay in a USC Residence Hall.  Each room houses two people with a shared bathroom.  ABCampers should bring the following:
