The University of the Southern Caribbean came alive  as over 600 of its brightest scholars were celebrated at the 2025 Honors Convocation under the inspiring theme: “Rooted in Faith, Rising in Excellence.” The day was not just a recognition of academic achievement; it became a testament to perseverance, faith, and community.

The program began with a memorable twist. A brief community-wide power interruption briefly dimmed the auditorium, and though the generator took a moment to transition, it came on just in time to keep the evening moving Yet, even in that warm, low-light setting, the students’ determination stood out. They remained engaged, present, and unwavering. What could have been an inconvenience instead became a quiet testament to the resilience and spirit that define USC’s scholars.

The keynote address by Ms. Delamae Wilson, Dean of the School of Environment, Circular Economy, and Sustainability at COSTAATT, was a stirring call to excellence. Drawing from her own journey as a student, she reminded honorees that achievement is more than grades; it is about anchoring their work in faith, perseverance, and purpose.

The afternoon unfolded with heartfelt moments, including a soulful musical performance by Jesse Shultz and affirming words from Provost Dr. Len Archer, President Dr. Colwick Wilson, and Deans from all five schools. Each speaker celebrated not only intellect but the discipline, resilience, and community spirit that shape USC students.

A particularly special highlight was the recognition of Ms. Michael Vernessa S. Buffong, recipient of the prestigious President’s Award for maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2024–2025 academic year. Her achievement shone as a beacon of what it truly means to rise in excellence. As the program drew to a close, the students were reminded of their calling to lead, to excel, and to shine as exemplars of Christ-centered scholarship, proving that even in darkness, their light cannot be dimmed.
