Evaluating Food Consumption Patterns among Seventh‑day Adventist Congregants in Trinidad and Tobago.

The University of the Southern Caribbean invites you to take part in an important research project examining food consumption patterns among Seventh‑day Adventist (SDA) congregants in Trinidad and Tobago. This study aims to identify dietary behaviours and assess the potential risk for non‑communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and your input will help shape a better understanding of nutrition and health within the SDA community.

Purpose of the Study

  • To evaluate dietary habits and food choices of SDA congregants in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • To assess the potential risk factors for non‑communicable diseases linked to nutrition and lifestyle.
  • To contribute to public health knowledge and support healthier communities.

This study is led by a distinguished team of academics and professionals from the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), the University of the West Indies (UWI), and Loma Linda University (LLU). Together, they bring expertise in nutrition, dietetics, public health, and social sciences.

What is the purpose of the study “Food Consumption Patterns among Seventh‑day Adventist Congregants in Trinidad and Tobago: Follow‑up Study, Phase II – What’s on Your Plate?”?

The study aims to:

  • Assess dietary intakes within the Adventist community in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Examine the relationship between diet and non‑communicable diseases (NCDs).

There are no personal benefits. However, the Adventist community will benefit collectively. Findings will be shared with the South Caribbean Conference of SDA, the Tobago Conference of SDA, and the Caribbean Union Conference of SDA, helping to improve health programmes and nutritional initiatives.

Eligible: Seventh‑day Adventists aged 18 or older residing in Trinidad and Tobago.

Not eligible: Non‑SDA individuals, minors, those institutionalised, pregnant, mentally challenged, or incarcerated.

No. Participation is voluntary, and members can choose whether to take part.

There are no consequences if you decide to stop partway through.

Yes. No names, addresses, emails, or phone numbers will be recorded. All questionnaires will use study codes instead of personal identifiers.

Yes. The team is trained and experienced in conducting studies of this nature.

There are no known risks associated with participating.

No incentives will be provided to participants.

Any SDA household member aged 18 or older may participate.

It takes approximately 20–30 minutes to complete.
