USC congratulates Fulbright Scholar |

Ms. Daidrey-Ann Sealy, chair of the department of Family and Consumer Sciences, University of the Southern Caribbean, has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Health Promotions and Behaviour at the University of Georgia, starting from September 2008. The USC administration and Ms Sealy’s colleagues congratulate her on the award.Ms. Sealy plans to use this opportunity to generate knowledge about the social and behavioral determinants of health. Upon her return to USC, she will apply that knowledge to the design, delivery and evaluation of disease prevention and health promotion programmes, as part of the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum. This she hopes will contribute significantly to the promotion of improved societal health and well being. With specific interest in health promotion, Ms Sealy plans to conduct research to ascertain the relationship between diet and the development of chronic lifestyle diseases among young adults. The findings of this research would be used to design programmes aimed at stemming the spread of lifestyle diseases among 5 – 12 year olds. Fulbright grants are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools. Since the start of the programme, approximately 279,500 participants have been chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential, for the exchange of ideas and contribution toward finding solutions to shared issues.
