USC Receives LITE Award

USC was among the five founding members of the Leaders in Tertiary Education (LITE) project that was launched on Monday, September 22, during the Quality Assurance Week 2008, of the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT).   The Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony was held at the Trinidad Hilton and Conference Centre for stakeholders of the ACTT.   The leaders of the five institutions, which are registered by ACTT, received awards during the ceremony.  They are University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTATT), Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies, and Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (TTHTI).

The ACTT Quality Assurance Week 2008 commenced with an Inter-Faith Service on Sunday, September 22.  It was held at the USC’s Main Auditorium.  Among those in attendance who participated in the service were Dr. Janet Stanley Marcano, Chair of the Board of Directors, ACTT; Dr. Ruby Alleyne, Executive Director of the Board, ACTT; Dr. Trevor. G. Gardner, President, USC; Cannon Knolly Clarke, Chairman of the Caribbean Conference of Churches; Reverend Joy Abdool, President of the St. Andrews Church, and Pastor Kern Tobias, President of the Caribbean Union Conference of SDA.

Other events for the week included lectures at UWI, St. Augustine; UTT, Arima; Muscovado Restaurant, Tobago; and promotional displays in Tobago and the Brian Lara Promenade, Port of Spain.  Additional information about ACTT and its services can be accessed on its website at www.actt.org.tt
