The University of the Southern Caribbean believes in offering friendly helpful service to its students. Thus it was no surprise when students met an information/ receptionist desk in the lobby of the Press Building. That is where visitors get a first impression of the University. Valley Voice met with several students on campus and asked them the following question: ‘What is your impression of the new receptionist area in the Administration Building?’
“The receptionist area looks good. It brings a nice, fresh look as you enter the press building, and it has an up-to-date modern feel to it. They are making technological advancements to enhance their quality of service. Even if the current students may not see the value in such upgrades, it is going to be appreciated by the prospective students and even as visitors pass through, they will get the feeling that this is a university.”

“I found it cool. When I first entered last week to register I was ‘wow-ed’ by it. It’s a nice area. Finally it is good to have some reference point to know someone who is new can get information. Now instead of checking security, there is somewhere right in the Admin. Building itself to gain guidance. This initiative suggests to me that they [the University] are meeting the needs of the students, and says to me that in times to come, things will be better and more comfortable. It is all about progress. It’s a good sign especially for the prospective students of the University.”
Jallod Pain - Biology Major
“I think the receptionist area in the Admin. Building is very, very beautiful. It looks better than how it used to look; and more improvements like that around the school will be greatly appreciated by the students.”
Adanna Mayers - Pyschology - Second year
“It was a good idea; reason being, a lot of people come and they do not know where to go for information so the receptionist area will resolve the confusion in their minds. It shows that slowly but surely, the school is fulfilling its motto, ‘Beyond Excellence’ and it shows that as a school, we are moving up. I am happy for the school.”
Yann Gilbert - Computer Science - Second Year
“Looking at the school and all the improvements that they are making; the receptionist area is one of the better advancements. Since they are actually making an effort to improve hospitality and service on campus, I consider it to be a great venture. I guess the priority is to ensure that students are comfortable, and that the area makes it even easier for students to find out more about the school. It is easily accessible and students do not have to run here and there for information.”
Dexter Springer - English - Second Year
“I think it’s a wonderful idea, and it adds to the level of professionalism in the school. This endeavour means that the University is moving toward excellence.”
Joel James - Theology Major - Fourth Year
