Egypt’s Crowned Prince

By: Colecia Brower

“Extraordinary,” “masterpiece,” “phenomenal” and “magnificent” are just a few words to describe the theatrical adaptation of Moses’ birth and role as a chosen leader of the Israelites, in “Egypt’s Crowned Prince,” held in the auditorium of the University of the Southern Caribbean, April 3 - 6 2008.

The excited audience was impressed to see the auditorium transformed into a wonderful Egyptian set, with appropriate lighting to suit the new transformation. This added to the originality of the décor, and it created a feeling of anxiousness in the awaiting audience. “Toil, labour” was the song echoed by the “Israelites” held captive in Egypt by pharaoh for many years, as enacted by students of USC’ drama club.

They stumbled onto the stage attired in appropriate rags and other props suitable for the clearly well rehearsed scene. As the drama continued, the actors did not lose the attention of their attentive audience.

Even during the intermission period they could not contain their anticipation.

What is more, the audience was speechless at the musical renditions done by both student and guest performers who brought life and creativity to the play through their brilliant performances. All the songs and music were originally written for “Egypt’s Crowned Prince”.

Talent, determination and extreme obedience were intensely brought out by Russell Leonce, who wowed the audience as a handsome and God fearing Moses.

The play provided USC students with the opportunity to practice, develop and showcase their excellent singing and acting skills.

“Egypt’s Crowned Prince” was one of the best stage plays to be presented by the University of the Southern Caribbean.

The cast and crew of the play included Raymond Choo Kong, Russell Leonce, Michelle Roach, Jeanelle Archer, Daryl Daniel, Orville Roach, Keith Kirk, the USC Drama group and USC Chorale who contributed largely to the success of the play through their excellent acting and singing talents.
