Come September 2008, Students and teaching faculty will be elated and relieved for the additional classroom space in the recently completed Classroom Complex situated north of the USC campus. The keys for the new building were handed over to President Trevor Gardner during the last week of June 2008, after he, along with a team of Vice Presidents and Building Committee representatives, conducted an inspection of the new facility. Subsequently, Dr. Gardner was visibly pleased as he reported on the completion of the building at a meeting of the Administrative Council. It was also reported that the curtain cubicles which were installed in the University’s Auditorium to be used as temporary classroom spaces were already dismantled. The new 3-storey complex, with its modern design, outshines all the other buildings on campus. Impressively painted in three-tone shades of tan, it continues to catch the attention and admiration of visitors, students and faculty alike.
The building would provide 7 new classrooms spaces with a capacity of over 100 students; 16 administrative offices and 6 work cubicles; a computer lab with space for 50 work stations; and a conference area with a capacity for over 700 patrons. Work has already begun to equip all the rooms with the necessary hi- tech equipment that will allow for the utilization of technology during teaching sessions, and facilitate e-learning technologies. In a statement today, Dr. Gardner explained that the new classroom complex will provide necessary relief for classes that were pressured for space. “I am ecstatic,” he remarked. “Our students will have access to state-of-the-art computer facilities; our faculty and staff will be more comfortable with access to additional office spaces; and the new conference hall will provide a classy ambience for hosting a range of events.” He added that as part of its seven-year building plan, USC will continue adding new facilities to provide much needed space in order to maintain the growth capacity of the institution, as authorized by the Board.
