"Funky Retro" Freshman Social |
|
By Dentrecia Blanchette. Every USCian knows that ‘funky retro’ is a state of mind as well as dressing style. The Student Development department hosted its annual Freshman Social on Saturday the 19th under the theme, “Funky Retro”. Students garbed themselves in the dress code for the night, and the modern hippy look and modest mix and match of apparel reflected each student’s uniqueness. Hordes of USC students and faculty members supported the event, as they re-defined “funky" the USCian way. This year’s Freshman Social engaged students and faculty in interactive games, suggested by each territorial student organization of the University. The Vinada Club, Trinidad and Tobago Club and Guyanese Club were just a few of the clubs that supported the event in style and numbers. Other student organizations such as the North Carib Club and the University’s Drum Band took advantage of the endeavour. They sold beverages and food items at reasonable prices throughout the night. The games that most enjoyed were ‘Ring Belly O’, ‘Here comes Jackie’ and ‘Red light Green light’ among others. Students of the University and community members had a fun-filled camaraderie between 8pm and 12pm. The University population always anticipates the Freshman Social with an attitude of supportiveness. The event unites the student body and embraces students’ dissimilarity and cultural diversity. Student-faculty participation and support for this year was higher than the last three years.
