Alumni Weekend 2008
By: University Relations Staff

Alumni Weekend The University of the Southern Caribbean hosted its annual Alumni Weekend Celebration on March 7-9, 2008. The theme that governed the weekend events was ‘Walking by Faith.’ The rich history of the University was on display for alumni of the classes of 1938, 1948, 1958, 1968, 1978, 1988 and1998.

Every year for Alumni Weekend, the University of the Southern Caribbean campus comes alive as several alumni, friends and families from around the region return to celebrate the stellar achievements that the University has made throughout the years. Many also return simply to reconnect with their old classmates, lecturers and friends and reminisce on the indelible memories that have been fostered here while they attended the Institution.

The Celebration spanned for three (3) eventful days. Some significant events which occurred during the celebration included lectures and lunches. The Friday night Vespers Service, the Sabbath Day Service and the ‘Saving George’ Puppet show were also highlights of the Weekend.

During the Friday Night Vespers Service, the University Drum Corps led a prayer walk around the campus to demonstrate the theme ‘Walking by Faith.’ At various locations on campus including the Linda Austin Dormitory and The Forde Library, representatives of the different schools prayed for the students, respective faculties and for the mission of the University. During the Sabbath Service, Pastor Andy Manzano, preached a soul stirring sermon that left alumni and friends, faculty and students blessed and inspired to continue to move in faith as they follow Christ.

The University of the Southern Caribbean Olympics held on March 9, 2007 also involved Alumni Olympians who showcased their physical talents in several of the races occurring on that thrilling day. Altogether, the Annual Alumni Weekend, under the direction of Mrs. Rachel Sealy rekindled old friendships, birthed new relationships, showcased the developments of our University and inspired alumni, family and friends to continue to invest their memories, time and finances in the University of the Southern Caribbean.

Let us continue to daily carve portraits of excellence in this University so that our memories, when it is our time to leave this Institution, will be fulfilling and long-lasting.
