USC is ideally located on 384 acres of picturesque hills and undulating plains in the lush Maracas Valley, 3 kilometers away from Trinidad’s first town, St. Joseph and just 16 kilometers north-east of Port of Spain, the capital city. The University’s campus is surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Northern range. The ambience allows for a oneness with nature, as members of the campus community enjoy the array of flora and fauna which nature so generously offers. Nature lovers will enjoy awaking to the chirping of a variety of bird species, or hiking over the mountains to the inviting beaches on the north coast, or walking deep into the campus estate and enjoying the soothing rhythms of the gently flowing river. For those who prefer more strenuous activity, the university provides facilities for a selection of recreational activities including lawn tennis, basket ball, volleyball, soccer, cricket and gym facilities. Fondly referred to as a “mini United Nations,” the USC family comprised of a potpourri of faculty, staff and students from over 38 countries worldwide, provides a stimulating multicultural environment where students discover new avenues of learning and experiences, aimed at preparing them to meet the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world. USC espouses the philosophy of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It teaches that true education is the harmonious development of the head, the heart, and the hand. Excellence in teaching, scholarship, research activities, educational innovations, and dedication to the principles of Christian education rank high within the value system of the institution. USC views truth as coming from God, as an expression of the nature of God, and the Bible, as a divine frame of reference which encompasses all truth. USC is located in the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad has established itself as the industrial and commercial hub of the Caribbean. It has proven itself to be a very attractive place for international investment. Trinidad is already a world leader in the production of Methanol, Urea, Natural Gas and other petro-chemical and steel products, but the country is better known for the production of petroleum and petroleum-based products. Trinidad, referred to as a tropical paradise, has a variety of flora and fauna, much to the delight of nature enthusiasts. The enticing beaches on the north coast are great attractions for tourists. Tobago is better known as a vacationer's dream, offering all the wonderful pleasures of a tropical paradise. From white, sandy beaches with turquoise-blue waters, to picturesque tropical reefs, and a variety of wildlife to complement the package. In fact, a few years ago, a group of Biology students from USC discovered several members of the Sabre Wing Hummingbird in Tobago, a subspecies of hummingbirds that was believed to be extinct since the early 1900's. Based on the USC discovery, it has now been established that the species is once again thriving in Tobago, the only island that they have ever inhabited. Trinidad and Tobago enjoys one of the highest literacy levels in the western hemisphere. There are several tertiary level education institutions in Trinidad, among which USC continues to distinguish itself. Graduates from the institution continue to show the richness of the educational package offered at USC, providing employers with a feeling of trust. The USC-reputation extends beyond Trinidad and Tobago to the Caribbean region, and the rest of the world. Come to USC! Take advantage of a tremendous educational opportunity, while enjoying all that Trinidad and Tobago has to offer.
