Letroy O. Cummings, PhD, M. Soc. Sc., MPM, B. Soc. Sc., Dip. S. W.
Acting Dean, School of Social Sciences
Letroy O. Cummings holds a PhD in Sociology, M. Soc. Sc. in Political Science, Masters in Public Management, B. Soc. Sc. in Sociology, and Diploma in Social Work. He is a Sociologist and an Associate Professor and Acting Dean for the School of Social Sciences since July 2017.
He lectured at the University of Guyana, Critchlow Labor College, Wayne State University and the University of the Southern Caribbean. He delivered courses in sociology, criminology, political science, management, and human resources management.
He has a passion for research and has among his publications; interpersonal conflict among couples in Jamaica, Guyana and the United States, Popular Mobilization and Social Unrest in Guyana’s Bauxite Mining Town. Domain Risk Factors and Childhood Victimization in Guyana, Incidents and Explanations of Romantic Homicides in Guyana, Unmasking Political Personalities in the Presidential Contest for Political leadership in Guyana. Understanding Intimate Partner Murder-Suicide: A Content Analysis of Newspaper Reports 2003 – 2008. Economic stress and well-being in urban Guyana: A microanalysis. He previously served as Chair, Department of Sociology and Psychology, School of Social Sciences at the University of the Southern Caribbean. Among other positions he held are, Human Resources and Administrative Manager at Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, Head Human Resources and Training at Georgetown Sewerage and Water Commissioners, and Human Resources and Development Manager at Guyana National Industrial Company.
